{"id":627,"date":"2026-07-02T12:40:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pohoriecergov.sk\/?post_type=poi&#038;p=627"},"modified":"2026-07-13T13:47:25","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T11:47:25","slug":"vodny-mlyn-v-krivanoch","status":"publish","type":"poi","link":"https:\/\/pohoriecergov.sk\/en\/poi\/vodny-mlyn-v-krivanoch\/","title":{"rendered":"The Watermill in Krivany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Within the cadastral area of the municipality<strong> Krivany<\/strong>&nbsp;there is an exceptional piece of engineering heritage \u2013&nbsp;<strong>a 17th-century watermill<\/strong>. In the past, it was powered by water channelled through a trough to the top of a wooden wheel fitted with blades. The grain was originally ground between two large millstones; later, it was ground on so-called \u201erollers\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The mill remained in operation until 1952. It was used to grind grain into semolina, groats and flour; maize semolina, groats and even electricity for the mill\u2019s own use were also produced here at a time when Krivany had not yet been electrified. The site also included an all-wooden sawmill, where timber was cut into planks, square timbers and boards. Following nationalisation in 1948 and the subsequent rise of the cooperative movement, the mill and the sawmill were closed down and sealed in 1952.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An important technical monument<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1984, the mill was added to the list&nbsp;<strong>technical monuments<\/strong>, though without any significant financial support to save it. The first restoration work on this cultural heritage began in 1991.
