According to historical sources, this tree featured in the town\u2019s earliest names. Lipany is first mentioned in written records at the beginning of the 14th century under the name <strong>Seven lime trees<\/strong> \u2013 Septemthillis. The Hungarian form of the name was H\u00e9th\u00e1rs and the German form was Siebenlinden. The symbolism of the lime trees is also preserved in the town\u2019s coat of arms, which depicts seven green lime leaves on a silver field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to those who remember, hundreds of lime trees once grew in the town, but their numbers gradually dwindled as a result of expanding development. Nevertheless, they can still be found in Lipany today, even right in the town centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most famous lime tree in \u0160ari\u0161<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> There are several lime trees in the town park, but one of them is exceptionally rare \u2013 according to tradition, it is said to be the last of the seven lime trees mentioned in the town\u2019s history. This small-leaved lime is over 320 years old, its trunk measures 536 centimetres in circumference and its crown reaches a height of 23 metres.
