It is composed of crinoid limestone and, even from a distance, catches the eye with its shape, which resembles a reclining human figure \u2013 one can make out a head, neck and chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Many names, but only one unique one <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The place is shrouded in various names and legends. In the past, it was known as <strong>The Sleeping Giant<\/strong>, later <strong>The Sleeping Monk<\/strong>, which is linked to the Christian tradition and the presence of monks in the area. Other well-known names include the Sleeping Prince, the Indian, the Stone Woman, the Stone Maiden and the Sleeping Maiden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rock formation also includes a cave that can be walked through, known locally as <strong>Perun\u2019s Cave<\/strong>. According to tradition, it held symbolic and ritual significance, as its openings resemble the eyes of a reclining figure. There are other interesting rock formations in the vicinity, which people\u2019s imaginations associate with figures, animals or mythological creatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Sleeping Monk<\/strong> It is one of the region\u2019s remarkable natural sites with a distinctive atmosphere. It is clearly visible from the surrounding area and can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes from the car park on the Pre\u0161ov\u2013Lipany\u2013Star\u00e1 \u013dubov\u0148a road.
