The pilot event \u201eExperience Castles Differently\u201c offered visitors a trip during which they explored the \u0160ari\u0161 region through castle legends, folk traditions, nature and local produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sunday 28 June 2026, the village of Kamenica near Sabinov came to life with an event that showcased a new way of exploring the region\u2019s cultural heritage. A pilot format for the product line <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarisskahradnacesta.sk\">\u0160ari\u0161 Castle Route<\/a> He showed that a visit to a castle need not be merely a stroll amongst the ruins. It can become a well-rounded experience that links history with the countryside, traditions, cuisine and the people who bring this place to life.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Zazi-hrady-inak-hrad-Kamenica-724x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4902\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-centrum-tradicnej-kultury-a-muzeum-kamenica\">Kamenica Centre for Traditional Culture and Museum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme of events began at the Centre for Traditional Culture and the Kamenica Museum. Together with the participants, we gained an insight into local history and customs. We were given a brief history of the village and Kamenica Castle itself, as well as a short overview of the key events that shaped the village\u2019s origins and development into its present form. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-1-oocrrs-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4926\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were also given an insight into the concept behind the Centre for Traditional Culture and Museum in Kamenica itself, and the story of its origins. Inside, we found a traditional \u0160ari\u0161 cottage furnished to reflect the needs of the time, complete with information materials that guided us through the traditions and customs of this part of the \u0160ari\u0161 region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we lit the fire in the oven and got it ready for us to bake some homemade bread later on. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-5-oocrrs-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4925\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hrad-kamenica-a-dychberuce-vyhlady\">Kamenica Castle and its breathtaking views<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This was followed by a joint ascent to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarisskahradnacesta.sk\/pamiatka\/hrad-kamenica\/\">Kamenica Castle<\/a>. Our walk along the nature trail was accompanied by a talk about the local flora and fauna, as well as the history, stories and legends associated with the castle. The ruins themselves offered us not only a guided tour but also views of the surrounding \u0160ari\u0161 countryside and the famous rock formation known as Kamenn\u00e1 baba, also called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/prirodne-krasy\/spiaci-mnich-kamenica\/\">The Sleeping Monk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-7-oocrrs-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4927\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-workshop-pecenia-chleba-pre-malych-aj-velkych\">Bread-baking workshop for young and old alike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme included a hands-on bread-baking workshop, which gave an insight into the traditional method of preparing one of our ancestors\u2019 most basic foods. Young and old alike were able to try their hand at working with dough, discover the individual steps involved in its preparation, and learn more about the significance of bread in folk culture.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-4-oocrrs-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4928\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-farma-kamenica-dobroty-z-ovcieho-mlieka\">Kamenica Farm and sheep\u2019s milk delicacies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The event concluded with a visit to a local farm and a tasting of sheep\u2019s milk products. We were introduced to the history of the farm and the traditional methods of processing sheep\u2019s milk and wool. The discussion on modern technologies and the adaptation of this profession to the 21st century was lively and offered several new perspectives on the issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This part of the programme also served as a reminder that a region\u2019s character is shaped not only by its monuments, but also by its traditional crafts, agriculture and the flavours associated with the local countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-6-oocrrs-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4929\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-2-oocrrs-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4930\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To round things off, we sampled our bread products and can confirm that traditional fare in \u0160ari\u0161 simply tastes fabulous. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/zazi-hrady-inak-kamenica-clanok-3-oocrrs-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4931\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eExperience Castles Differently\u201c introduced a concept in which the castle serves as a starting point for exploring the entire region. It links the historic site with the stories of the village, the natural surroundings, traditional culture and local producers. Visitors thus take away from their trip not just a visit to the castle, but above all a vivid experience of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was aimed at the general public, including families with children, and showcased the potential of experiential tourism in the \u0160ari\u0161 region. This pilot event also paved the way for further similar activities that can introduce visitors to the castles of \u0160ari\u0161 from a new perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of events of this kind are planned for this season. Next time, we\u2019ll set off together to \u2018Experience Castles Differently\u2019 in the countryside <a href=\"http:\/\/slanskevrchy.com\">The Sl\u00e1nsk\u00e9 Hills<\/a>.
